ABOUT DIFFICIL-S^®

DIFFICIL-S^® is a powerful disinfectant/cleaner for use on surfaces, equipment and utensils to aid in the control of cross-contamination. It is one of the most powerful broad spectrum disinfectants ever developed, and because of its highly reactive nature it is presented as a two pack system to ensure stability during storage.

DIFFICIL-S^® is especially efficient at tackling Clostridium difficile. As well as containing chlorine dioxide producing material, the product contains a detergent to improve wetting, which improves spore penetration, approximately doubling the efficiency of the product over chlorine dioxide alone.

DIFFICIL-S^® also incorporates a chemical mechanism to protect the system when the product is prepared with hard water.

ADVANTAGES

Compared to sodium hypochlorite (bleach) which is commonly used for C.DIFF disinfection DIFFICIL-S^® has many advantages:

• LOW BULK – Dilutes at 1:400 (bleach vares from 1:1 to 1:9). Two small sachets (2x12.5g) give 10 litres ready to use disinfectant.
• EASY TO USE – No unpleasant or harmful gas release at correct dilution rate.
• NON CARCINOGENIC – No cancer causing compounds produced by combination with organic waste
• STABLE – Sachets are stable for 2 years. Bleach is reduced to half strength within 6 months.
• NON CORROSIVE – Near neutral ph

STABILITY

As can be seen from the top graph (right), after over 600 days storage at 35C in sachets the product is still producing at or above it’s target chlorine dioxide output for a 1-150 dilution of 700ppm.
If DIFFICIL-S® is prepared at a 1-400 dilution in water and stored in a sealed container over a 5 day period it maintains it’s chlorine dioxide content in solution. This is shown in the bottom graph (right).

COMPATABILITY

A 1-400 dilution of DIFFICIL-S™ was prepared and various materials immersed in the solution for a period of 24 hours to check their compatibility with the product:-

TESTING

DIFFICIL-S^® has been independently tested at a dilution rate of 1:400 using BS EN1276 test at 1 minute to give at least a 5 log reduction in the following organisms:

• Clostridium difficile including spores - NCTC 11209
• Noro Virus
• MRSA - ATCC 33591 and NCTC 12493
• Tuberculosis
• Listeria - monocytogenes NCTC 11994
• E.coli - ATCC 10536
• Salmonella - typhimurium NCTC 5710 and enteritidis NCTC 4444
• Pseudomanas - ATCC 9027
